Frequently Asked Questions

Are Custom Cat Enclosures made to measure, or do I have to order a stock standard model and make do?

All of our enclosures are made to measure. Even if you select one of our "standard" enclosures as featured on the Basic Enclosures page, we build it so it can be modified.

How do you keep your designs so cost effective?

Damian is an industrial Designer by qualification. He understands materials and their limitations. By combining this knowledge with your budget, he can come up with the most cost effective solution to enclose your space. You are not paying for anything that does not need to be there. All quotes are given as the cost of materials plus an estimated prefabrication and installation time. Normally this time is pretty accurate and it is important to note that this time is calculated on the basis that there are no hidden surprises on the installation date and the space is clean and ready to go.

What colours are available in the steel frame?

The steel frames are available in either galvanised finish, which will not rust, a painted finish in any colour of your choice, or powdercoated in a range of colorbond colours. If you are trying to match the colour of your house, fence, or gutters, there should be a matching colour available. If there is not an exact match then we can find a complimenting colour that will fit right in.

Will you clean up my garden before the installation?

Custom Cat Enclosures specialises in the design and installation of cat enclosures. We do not offer any other gardening or home maintenance services. If your area has not been cleared of any rubbish, plant material, pests, or safety hazards in preparation for the installation, your installation may be rescheduled to a day after the area has been cleared.

What do I need to do in preparation for my installation?

To help make things run as safely and smoothly as possible with your new installation, please make sure that all rubbish is removed, any plants are trimmed back, and the area is free from pests such as spiders, wasps, and ants. Any creeping plants are suggested to be removed completely. Having a clear space to work in keeps a safe environment for the installers and your pets. As our free standing framed enclosures are using square corner connections, it also makes things a lot easier if the area has been made level prior to the installation. (This may not be possible for all areas).

Do you install cat flaps?

Custom Cat Enclosures offers an installation service of cat doors into timber doors, such as laundry doors as part of any cat enclosure installation. We do not install cat doors on their own without a larger installation project. For the installation of cat doors and cat flaps into glass panels, such as windows or sliding doors, we have a number of recommended glaziers for the job, just ask on the day of your consultation.

Do I need to be at home while you are installing my enclosure?

It is entirely up to you. If you are comfortable for us to carry out work when you are not at home, this is fine. As most installations take a number of hours (and in some cases days) we do not insist that you remain on site. All we need is access to the space and a power point. Tea and scones are optional.

What are your payment terms?

We like to keep it simple. All design consultations around Canberra suburbs incur a fee for the service which is payable on the day of consultation by cash only. Gungahlin consultations: $60.00, Belconnen consultations: $80.00, Inner North Canberra consultations: $80.00, Inner South (incl. Woden Valley & Weston Creek) consultations: $100.00, South Canberra (Tuggeranong): $120.00, Consultations in Bungendore, Queanbeyan, and Jerrabomberra: $120.00, Yass consultations: $120.00. Others areas are POA. This fee is then deducted off the total invoice price for the completed installation but is non-refundable for installations that do not go ahead. A minimum deposit of 50% of the overall estimated price is required before any prefabrication can commence. The design consultation fee is payable via cash only. The deposit can be paid via cash or electronic funds transfer (EFT). If the deposit is to be paid by cheque, no work can commence until the cheque has cleared (upto 7 days) which may delay the installation. The balance is due and payable on or before the installation date if paid by cash. If the balance is to be paid by cheque or EFT, payment is required seven (7) days prior to the installation date to allow time for the payment to clear into the nominated account. Cheque payment for the balance owing is not accepted on the day of installation. Failure to pay the balance may result in the removal of the installation.

How long do I wait for a written Quote?

Design consultations are booked on a first-come-first-served basis and are subject to booking availability. Following a design consultation, you may expect to receive your written estimate within 5 business days from when we receive payment for your consultation fee. As fees are due for payment at the time of consultation, you may expect your written estimate within 5 business days from that date via email.
